The Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office has successfully completed a book drive to provide over 1,000 titles to an inmate library at the Knox County Sheriff's Detention Facility. The book drive, spearheaded by Assistant Public Defender Jessica Greene, amassed hundreds of donated books to promote literacy among hundreds of inmates housed by the County, at no expense to taxpayers. The all-volunteer effort was made possible by the approval of Chief Pete Garza and the staff of the Knox County Sheriff's Detention Facility, where library space is already available. District Public Defender Mark Stephens describes the book drive as an example of the "client-centered, community-oriented representation" that is the mission of the Knox County Public Defenders Community Law Office.
