Communication Through Art 

A young artist proudly displays her creationCommunication Through Art is an open-ended fourteen-week program. Generally, classes meet on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 PM, but the schedule is kept flexible to accomodate both artists and participants.

Guided activities include

    »  Acrylic and watercolor painting

    »  Pencil and pastel drawing

    »  Clay sculpting

    »  Creative writing with the Knoxville Writers' Guild

    »  Making and playing musical instruments

    »  Instruction and performance with the Tennessee Stage Company and the Bijou Theatre

    »  Guest lectures by noted local artists

    »  Field trips to the Knoxville Museum of Art, live theatrical productions and concerts with the Knoxville Opera

Youth ages 11-19 living in the Empowerment Zone, clients, siblings of clients, and youth at risk are all encouraged to get involved.

Participants are asked to complete questionnaires at the beginning and end of the program. Feedback from parents and guardians is also solicited.
